Documents Needed

To apply for a Russian visa, you need to submit to a Russian consulate certain documents, depending on the type of visa you require.

To apply for a tourist visa, you need to submit:

  • your passport with at least 2 blank visa-designated pages (passport must be valid for at least 6 months after intended departure date from Russia),
  • one passport-size photo,
  • two copies of Russian visa application form, completed and signed (you can find it in the consulate for free; or download from our site),
  • Confirmation from authorized Russian travel company, or from the Russian hotel, showing reference number and confirmation number for the visa.

To apply for a business visa, you need to submit:

  • your passport with at least 2 blank visa-designated pages (passport must be valid for at least 6 months after intended departure date from Russia),
  • one passport-size photo,
  • two copies of Russian visa application form, completed and signed (you can find it in the consulate for free; or download from our site),
  • Official invitation from an organization authorized to invite business visitors to Russia.
  • For multi entry visa, or stay exceeding 3 months, a HIV test is required.

To apply for a Private or Homestay visa, you need to submit:

  • your passport with at least 2 blank visa-designated pages (passport must be valid for at least 6 months after intended departure date from Russia),
  • one passport-size photo,
  • two copies of Russian visa application form, completed and signed (you can find it in the consulate for free; or download from our site),
  • Visa entitlement certificate (IZVESHENIYE) from the local OVIR in Russia. Your host must obtain this certificate for you and send the original certificate to you.

The originals of the visa support (invitation) documents are only required if you're applying for a multiple-entry or if you're applying in one of the following countries: Switzerland, Sweden, and sometimes Australia, Japan, and Germany.

To process your visa, the consulate will charge you a certain visa processing fee depending on the type of your visa and the speed of processing (the more you pay, the faster your request is processed). Usually, a tourist visa costs from $60 to $100 US (lowest) and takes about 7 to 14 days to process.
