According to the Russian law, your Russian visa must be registered within 72 hours upon your arrival. If you arrive on a Saturday,Sunday or holiday, your visa must be registered on the first working day after your arrival.

If you are staying at a hotel, the hotel will register your visa for a nominal fee.

If you are staying in a private appartment and are traveling on:

- private visa, the person who invited you should apply with you to a local department of Passport and Visa Serice.

- tourist visa, you need to go to the Passport and Visa Department of the local Police Precinct in Moscow or to a local UVIR in other cities. Tourist visa registration rules for private accomodations are compicated and change often, contact you visa sponsor for detailed information on the registration procedure.

- business visa, you should submit your passport and visa to your sponsoring company for registration. By the Russian laws you cannot apply for business visa registration by yourself. Registration is done through Passport and Visa Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. To process it, you will have to hand in the original documents, which will be lodged to local PVS for registration. Your sponsoring company should provide you with a written confirmation that your documents have been taken away and copies of your documents.
